Tip of the Month - Getting Set Up to Receive External Notifications
Foothold is excited for Daniel Kish to be this year's keynote speaker. Losing both of his eyes to cancer as a baby, Daniel learned a new way to see. Within a few months of losing his eyes, it became clear to those around him that Daniel was learning to discern the nature and location of objects well beyond his reach. By clicking his tongue and listening to the patterns of information that echoed back to him, Daniel began to construct images in his mind of near and distant surroundings that allowed him to navigate as freely as if he were seeing.
Daniel's parents knew his blindness would pose significant challenges, and they knew fear would compromise his ability to face those challenges. Therefore, his parents were determined not to let fear and doubt sway Daniel's upbringing. Walking himself to his neighborhood school, finding his own way around new places, bicycling on his own, tree climbing, and general roughhousing were just a few of the typical activities that characterized Daniel's active boyhood. Fear of the unknown was thus neutralized in Daniel's mind, freeing him to face all of life challenges with little trepidation.
Today, Daniel is the first blind person ever known to be certified to teach blind people how to navigate, and the first to apply these same principals to help everyone, blind and sighted alike, navigate any challenge more effectively and with less fear. Voted one of the top 10 speakers at TED2015 and PopTech's talk of the day, and featured in over 150 major publications and broadcasts reaching millions around the globe, Daniel has served thousands of clients from Fortune 500s to individuals.

As we have done in previous months, we are continuing to make available a new set of useful features and functions to users of AWARDS. As always, this round of upgrades is provided free of charge to all AWARDS users and is described below. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask your local Help Desk or your Foothold Client Services representative. We hope these enhancements improve the way you use AWARDS and provide services!
Deployment: April 6, 2016
Client Phone Numbers - New Field Requirements
Phone numbers entered in client records must now have at least 10 digits and, with the exception of parentheses and dashes, can only contain numbers. No alpha characters are allowed. This new requirement, which applies to client phone numbers entered during the Intake/Admission process and those collected on the Face Sheet (including external address information), is designed to help improve data entry quality, as well as to allow for better integration with the optional E-Prescribing functionality.
Employers - Enhancements
As we continue to develop the new look and feel of AWARDS, the following enhancements have been made to the Employers feature (located within Employment > Jobs > Employers).
User Login ReportBuilder - NEW!
Until now, Current Web Sessions information and the User Group Report have been housed separately in the System Setup module. With the deployment of the new User Login ReportBuilder, this data is now combined in a single location, accessible from Administration> System Setup> Login Maintenance> User Login ReportBuilder. This ReportBuilder - which comes complete with the standard set of useful tools found in other AWARDS ReportBuilders - enables users to build customized reports of login-related data elements including user, current web session, and employee information.
The User Login ReportBuilder will replace the System Setup module's Current Web Sessions and User Group reports, which will be removed from AWARDS in May 2016.

A few months ago HUD changed the definition of Chronic Homelessness (CH) so that it uses the new "Extent To Homelessness" data elements. Under the new definition, if the Head of Household or any adult in a family is Chronically Homeless, then all the members of the household are considered Chronically Homeless as well.
We've recently made some enhancements to AWARDS to make it easier to change the CH status of household members. Specifically, instead of requiring you to update every household member's admission form when a status needs to be changed, you now only need to update one household member's information. Any time you update an intake/admission form, or any time you update the Household Composition form, AWARDS will automatically re-calculate the CH status of all the members in the household. In addition, we've run a script in all databases to update the CH status of everyone enrolled in an HMIS project since 10/1/2015.
To help users understand Chronic Homelessness better, we've recorded a training video - accessible below, as well as within Online Help - that explains the new definition and how it's used in AWARDS. An FAQ is also available in Online Help that details the new definition in relation to AWARDS data elements.
Understanding Chronic Homelessness (22 min)
Join us for a look at the new definition of Chronic Homelessness and how this information is calculated in AWARDS.
A special note for Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) grantees: The second federal transfer period for RHY data is April 11th through the 29th. Make sure that you've tested your HMIS Export ahead of time to resolve all validations errors. Remember that when you do run the export, it's very important that you choose "RHY" as your export type. The RHY export type hashes all of the personally protected information so it can be sent to the RHYPoint system without violating any privacy rules.

Tip of the Month - Getting Set Up to Receive External Notifications
Did you know that some Internal Audit Messages can be configured to send corresponding notifications to your external email system? If you're interested in receiving external notifications, here’s what you'll need!
- Human Resources > Staff Information
- Navigation bar > your name > Password & Security
- User Settings > Notifications (available once the "Receive External Email Notifications" permission has been granted)
Keep in mind that your agency may have requirements regarding whether external notifications can be set to your work email address, personal address, or either. Any requirements will be noted on the page when doing data entry from location b or c in the list above.
When you receive a notification via email, the content of that notification will include the type of internal audit message, along with a link to the message in AWARDS. Upon clicking that link you'll be required to login to AWARDS, and you'll then be able to view the full message.
For more information about external notifications, click here.
